the accidental co-sleepers

When I was pregnant with Liam I kept telling myself and others that I absolutely would not be co-sleeping with my baby. I wanted my own space with my husband. The baby needed to sleep in his crib in his room, and that was the end of it. Well, the joke was on me! (I'm telling you, if you don't have kids never say never...you will eat your words) Liam always had sleep issues...who knows why...and we ended up co-sleeping a lot. It was the only way we could all get some decent rest. We finally bit the bullet and sleep trained him but every time he's been sick or scared or particularly lonely he has ended up in our bed. Again, we all sleep better with this arrangement.

I know it's kind of a taboo subject, especially in the Miami culture. People warn that we will never get him out of our bed but I doubt he will be wanting to cuddle up in bed with mommy when he's 16 years old. And to be honest, it really doesn't bother me, and it doesn't bother Alex either. It's nice when it's just the two of us in our bed (helloooo, more space!) but we really don't care if Liam wants to sleep with us, and sometimes we miss him when he sleeps in his own bed. Co-sleeping isn't for everyone and I get that...but if my boy needs the extra snuggles then I'm happy to give them. So far Isabel isn't into co-sleeping. She sleeps much better alone in her crib, but if she wants to join the family bed, she's more than welcome.
