My Little Mermaid
My daughter has taken a liking to Little Mermaid. So much so that when we renovated our house this summer and decided the kids could each have their own room, she requested a Little Mermaid room.
This brought back some wonderful memories because I also had a Little Mermaid themed room when I was a kid. I even searched high and low for the same glow-in-the-dark Little Mermaid table lamp I used to have. No luck. But I'll keep scouring eBay!
I was, however, contacted about a Little Mermaid LEGO set around the same time we were remodeling, which piqued my interest.
We're a LEGO family. Alex grew up putting tiny blocks together, making magnificent creations. He still has much of his collection and has handed it down to our son. Liam could spend hours on the floor of his bedroom making space ships and strange new lands. I love how LEGOs prompt him to be creative; he uses his brain and his hands. Last year he was even part of a special after school LEGOs club.
I am a bit ashamed to admit that I never prioritized getting LEGOs for Isabel. It's not because she's a girl. I just didn't think she was all that interested. But when I showed her the Little Mermaid LEGO set her eyes lit up. She immediately ripped open the box and sat at her desk to put the set together. Once the building process was completed she sat there and played make-believe. She made voices for Ariel and Ursula. She created a whole story using the pieces of this set.
It makes my mama heart happy to see her using her imagination and loving something that her brother and dad also enjoy. I'm excited to add to her collection of LEGOs and watch as her imagination soars.
*The 'Ariel and the Magical Spell' LEGO set was gifted to us, but the opinions in this post are completely my own.
